Fast FAQs: connection issues

Turn your house into a SmartHome! Monitor, schedule and control appliances like lights, air-conditioners, geysers and pool pumps from your smartphone! The Astute Range puts power back in your hands.

Firstly check the internet connection of the mobile phone and router. The device stores all schedules in the cloud, so it needs the internet to set and run the schedules. It can be switched manually without internet connectivity.

Try rebooting the ASC by pressing the Reboot Button for 1 second (small round one, below the Power Button), then try again after a few seconds. For the ASI or ASP switch the Isolation Switch OFF, wait for 1 second and switch it ON again to reboot.

If the device is still unresponsive, remove from it from the App and re-pair the device.

We get many support calls about connecting to Wi-Fi. It often turns out to be due to the Wi-Fi password. You can test your password by disconnecting and reconnecting your phone or other device to Wi-Fi to make sure.

A typical Wi-Fi connection needs to be within 20 meters of the Wi-Fi router. Thick walls and other obstacles might affect the range.

Astute Devices can only work on 2.4GHz networks.  Many newer routers have a dual output frequency of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.  If possible switch off the 5G transmission. Alternatively, ensure that your mobile device is on the 2.4 GHz frequency and then pair the Astute device on the same 2.4 Ghz frequency.

No, Astute Smart Devices will not work properly without an internet connection. The device stores all settings and schedules in the cloud, so it needs the internet to set and run the schedules.  Automations linked to global weather also cannot be triggered if the internet connection is off.

Without internet connectivity, it can only be switched manually. Once your internet connectivity returns, the Astute device will sync and everything will return to the schedule.

Automations that are linked to each other will work, as long as the router is switched on, even though the internet connection is off.

The Astute Smart Device will automatically connect as soon an internet and Wi-Fi connection is established, but will not go back into an “ON” state until the start of the next “ON” schedule. A smart automation can be set within the app to achieve a desired state after a power outage.

Alternatively, if available, use the return-to-state setting.  This handy feature allows you to set the state the device should be after a power failure. You can choose one of three options: 1. Return to the state the device was in before the power failure 2. Always switch on after a power failure 3. Always switch off after a power failure

You can manually operate the Astute Device by pressing the Power Button (large square button) to switch. A red flashing light will indicate that the device is manually switched “ON”. The blue light will be off due to not having an internet connection.

Refer to the table for the meanings of the different combinations, but in simple terms, the RED indicates power and BLUE indicates Wi-Fi. When they are both lit up together, it can appear purple.

Yes, simply set up a Group Switch, then add the Smart devices to the group. One button will then switch all devices at once and you can set timing events for the group.

  1. Click on one of the devices
  2. Click on edit in the top right corner
  3. Under “Others” select “Create Group”
  4. Select all devices that must be in the group
  5. Press “Save”

Each Astute device has one switching channel. It CAN connect multiple appliances, but will switch ONLY as a single unit.

If for example a geyser and pool pump are connected to the same ASC, both will switch ON and OFF simultaneously. The CBI Home App can service multiple Astute devices. If you wish to control multiple devices independently, install multiple Astute devices.

If both the Astute device and the router remain powered on (even though the Wi-Fi goes off for a while) the Astute device will still switch the device on and off based on its programmed time schedules. Even if Wi-Fi disconnects or disappears, this switching of programs, continues.

Note that if either the mains power disconnects, or if the Astute device is disconnected from the power source for any period, the timer schedules will NOT function until the device is re-connected to power and cloud.
